Port Blair, Aug 27: The Andaman and Nicobar Chess Association successfully conducted the A&N State U-19 Boys & Girls State Chess Championship 2024 from 25th to 26th August 2024 at Tamizhar Sangam Hall, Port Blair. The event also served as the official selection trials for the National Junior U-19 Chess Championship 2024, scheduled to be held in Haryana in September 2024.
The championship was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Vikash Singhal, IDSE (GE-Brijgunj), who made the first ceremonial move on the top board. Mr. L. Murthy, President of Tamizhar Sangam was the guest of honour.
Around 160 players participated in this event in which, M.A. Dinakar emerged as the champion, with Yuvan Singh as the runner-up. Chirag Kumar and Virat J.S. secured the 3rd and 4th positions, respectively in the boys’ category. In the Girls category, Y. Rini Roselin claimed the championship title, followed by Parnita as the runner-up. D. Charvi and Krishnapriya B. Rajesh finished 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Mr. Vishal Ram, S.H.O. of Aberdeen Police Station was the chief guest for the closing ceremony who presented awards to the top 15 players in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. Mr. Ram commended all participants for their dedication and highlighted the vital role such tournaments play in cultivating the next generation of chess champions.
All selected players are hereby informed to submit their consent letter of participation in the nationals by August 31st, 6:00 pm, via WhatsApp at 9434293379 or at the ANCA Office, Dairy Farm. Failure to do so will result in the next player on the merit list being considered for participation.
