Diglipur, July 14: In an engine dinghy mishap off Lamiya Bay coast, Diglipur, a person is reportedly missing in the sea while another person in the boat, who was hanging on to water jerry can somehow managed to swim to an island and survive on Friday evening.
According to information, Mr. Ripan Haldar, 42, S/o Late Harendra Haldar, R/o Swarajgram village of Diglipur Tehsil after reportedly purchasing a motorised fishing dinghy from Mayabunder, he along with Mr. Bishnu Ram, 55 (assumed age) resident of the same village sailed the dinghy from Mayabunder, destined to Diglipur in the forenoon. However, when they reached near the Lamiya Bay coast, the dinghy developed a snag in the engine. On the other hand, they were plagued by the extremely rough sea condition. Mr. Halder tried to set the engine right amidst the extremely bad weather condition but he couldn’t and which reportedly resulted in the capsize of the dinghy ultimately. Both the persons then kept on floating with the help of jerricans in the sea. However, Mr. Bishnu Ram reportedly became exhausted while Mr. Ripan kept on clinging onto the jerrican and simultaneously he was encouraging his companion to keep on floating.
However, Mr. Ram reportedly gave in to the mammoth sized waves, which had already swallowed their boat, while Mr. Ripon, in his desperate attempt swam to a tiny island near Lamiya Bay and somehow managed to save his life. By the time he was ashore, the darkness descended and he shouted for help.
But his cry was unheard of in the solitary island. The following day, the dog-tired Ripon tied his red towel to a long stick and cried out for help waving his red towel. Luckily, a fishing boat in the vicinity caught the sight of Mr. Ripan standing on the shore of the island and the fishermen then took him to a safer place and informed the Police. The Police then rushed him to the CHC, Diglipur yesterday and he is under treatment.
On the other hand, immediately after getting the information, the Marine Police Force, in coordination with local civil police swung into action and initiated a search operation, but Mr. Ram’s trace couldn’t be established yet, as per the information last received.
