Port Blair, Feb 21: The DMK party today urged the Lt. Governor to relieve the Tehsilder from all his additional duties and allow him to perform his actual duties.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Mr. A R Marudhavanan, the State Organiser of DMK today said that for every needs right from OBC, Local certificate, Islander card, Senior citizen certificate, Old age pension to land related everyone needs a Tehsilder. Every working day one can find hundreds of people flocking in the Tehsildar’s office for one job or the other.
“For the last one month it’s been seen that the people of Port Blair Tehsil are made to wait for hours to have a glimpse of the Tehsilder. On enquiry we found out that the Tehsilder, Port Blair has been given additional duties of Tehsilder (Special duty), Tehsilder (Election), Tehsilder (Land Records), Tehsilder (Ferrargunj Tehsil), and Tehsilder (Disaster Management),” Marudhvanan said in his letter.
He added that it is in every bodies knowledge that the Tehsilder (Port Blair) is an important Post as Port Blair Tehsil involves large sections of the people including Neil and Havelock Islands.
“Even if a person is given the sole duty of Tehsilder(Port Blair), one has to get involved full time to do justice to the job. Under such a condition the Tehsilder (Port Blair) being given five additional duties is like making mockery of the needs of the people of Port Blair Tehsil,” he added.
