Port Blair, May 12: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to completely reconstruct the Lorozig Bridge in Baratang Island.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the Member of Parliament said that the RCC bridge near Lorozig area of Baratang Island, situated close to the Forest Nursery, is in a deplorable condition. Its current state compromises the safety of NH4 commuters who rely on this crucial route for their daily travel.
He added that particularly during heavy rainfall in the monsoon season, the nallah under the bridge often floods, causing the water level to rise significantly, sometimes surpassing the height of the bridge itself. This recurrent flooding not only poses immediate dangers to commuters but also weakens the structural integrity of the bridge over time.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that in case of any damage in the bridge the entire North and Middle Andaman will get disconnected from Port Blair. Considering the critical role of NH4 in facilitating transportation and connectivity in the region, it is imperative that immediate action be taken to address this pressing issue, he added.
Hence he requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to order complete reconstruction of the Lorozig bridge. “This reconstruction is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers travelling on NH4, not only in the present but also in the years to come,” he added.
