Port Blair, May 05: On Saturday at 1500 hrs, the Fire Services in Bambooflat received a distressing call reporting a fire outbreak from Shorepoint’s Dumping ground area. The intensity of the blaze prompted the diversion of Fire Service vehicles from Ferrargunj. However, upon assessing the magnitude of the fire and its proximity to the Mangrove areas, additional Fire Vehicles from Fire Service Aberdeen were redirected to the scene. As per details, the collaborative efforts of the Fire Mitras from Bambooflat played a pivotal role in extinguishing the flames.
Mr. Sandeep, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySp) of the fire department, along with Inspector J. Varma, were present at the site to oversee the firefighting operations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to determine its origin and prevent future occurrences.
The inferno emitted thick gases, exacerbating breathing problems in the surrounding areas, it is reported. As per details lack of manpower in Fire Services was also evident at the scene of Fire Fighting.
Residents of the area are now demanding better management of garbage in the garbage dumping yard of Shorepoint as it poses risk for such fire accidents in near future also.
