Port Blair, Apr 15: The Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with Diviyam Talkies Theater organized a special movie show for Senior Citizens of Abbhyuday Complex, Old Age Home, Ferrargunj and Ullahs Home, Attam Pahad. The event aimed at providing the elderly with a fun and entertaining experience. A total of 11 Senior Citizens from both homes had attended the movie show.
The show, which was tailored specifically for the senior audience, provided much-needed recreation and fun for the elders, many of whom are often confined to the routines of their respective care homes. It offered them a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in new narratives and experiences, contributing to their emotional and mental well-being.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare) expressed his gratitude to the owner of Divyam Talkies, Mr. Diwakar Moorthy for their support and contribution towards this program. He emphasized how social gatherings and collective experiences such as movie shows can greatly enhance the seniors’ mental health, stave off feelings of loneliness, and encourage a sense of community.
He also discussed future plans designed to enrich the lives of our senior citizens. He passionately appealed to the General public/Organizations/institutions to support the elderly and CCI children in whatever ways possible. Visiting old age and CCI homes to spend time with the occupants can effectively disrupt the cycle of isolation and loneliness they often face.
Speaking on behalf of all the senior citizens present, Mrs. Manjuri Adhikari (91 Years old) of Ullahs Home shared her heartfelt appreciation to the owner of Diviyam Talkies Theatre and the Directorate of Social Welfare for arranging the event and for their thoughtful initiative in organizing such engaging activities for them.
