Mayabunder, Apr 06: In view of the General Election to Lok Sabha-2024 and in line with the ECI’s firm commitment and motto in ensuring ‘No Voters to be Left Behind’ in this monumental celebration of democracy-‘Chunav Ka Parv, Desh Ka Garv’, the District Election Office, N&M Andaman organized an Election awareness programme on the theme ‘Karen Matdaata Mahotsav’ exclusively for the Karen Community at Karmatang Beach, Mayabunder today under the aegis of SVEEP. The programme was attended by the District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner, N&MA, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Mr. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Dy. SP (HQ) Dr. Chandra Prakash Meena, and other Election functionaries of N&M Andaman.
In his address, the chief guest briefed the community about the SVEEP activities undertaken by the District Election Office to make the electors informed and emphasized on the importance of ethical voting in the ensuing election. He expressed his gratitude to the Heads of Karen Community for successfully organizing the event and appealed to them to cast their vote on the Poll day i.e. 19th April, 2024.
On the occasion, various cultural programmes like bamboo dance, folk dance & songs on the theme of election were presented by the people of Karen community. The community with a population of around 3200 has been settled in various places post-1925 under various settlement schemes of the Govt. of India.
The objective of the programme was to reach out to the community and explore their rich cultural traditions and to make them aware about the electioneering process and numerous dispensations made by the Election Commission of India to make the election free, fair, accessible, and peaceful. Apart from organizing Karen Matdaata Mahotsav, Sand Art on electioneering themes was also displayed which was a major attraction of the mahotsav.
