Port Blair, Mar 03: Directorate of Social Welfare is proud to announce the successful completion of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Marathon (Drug-Free India Campaign), which took place with great enthusiasm and active participation from the community. The event aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
The marathon commenced at Marina Park, with runners setting off on a spirited trail that concluded at the scenic Corbyn’s Cove Beach. An impressive turnout of more than 200 participants from Police Department, IRBn, CISF, Indian Army, Child Care Institution and general public from Port Blair showcased their enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.
We were honored to have Mr. L.Kumar, IAS; Secretary (Social Welfare) was the chief guest of the marathon. His presence was a source of motivation for all the runners and underscored the importance of the drive against drug abuse.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), not only was present to boost the morale of the participants but also joined the ranks as a runner, setting a spirited example. He addressed the gathering, reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to shaping a drug-free India and lauding the collective efforts of every individual who took a step in this direction.
In a thrilling conclusion to the event, the top ten finishers were honored, with Mr. N. Eswaran from Indian Army clinching the first prize for his exceptional dedication. Special recognition was given through consolation prizes to outstanding participants- Ms. G. Bhavani, a resilient female contender; Mr. A. Ramakrishna, a Senior Citizen; and Master Akshit Babu, a spirited young participant from Carmel School. These prizes signify their remarkable contributions and commendable performances during the Marathon.
In a ceremony imbued with camaraderie and shared commitment to social welfare, the prizes were presented by Mr. L. Kumar, Secretary (Social Welfare) and Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare). Their addresses to the participants and audience highlighted the importance of community efforts in building a healthier society free from the clutches of drug dependency.
