Sitanagar, Diglipur, Jan 29: For the past three years, a large number of residents of Sitanagar, Diglipur have been grappling with a critical issue of inadequate water supply. The problem arose when the construction of NH4 commenced in the region.
Due to insufficient clean drinking water from the APWD tap connections, the residents are facing a scarcity of drinking water. As per reports out of seven wards in Sitanagar Gram Panchayat, particularly Wards 1, 2, and 3 (half), receive water through tap connections, but the remaining wards number 3 (half)4,5,6 and 7 rely on water tankers for the past three years.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Biplab Mondal, the Pradhan of Sitanagar, highlighted the persistent problem, revealing that despite numerous letters written in this regard, the residents are still facing challenges. He urged authorities to replace the existing pipelines from Sheel Tirkey at Ward No.1 to APWD Barrack at Ward No. 7 under Gram Panchayat Sitanagar.
He added that three years ago all these wards used to get water through pipelines but due to NH-4 works there are disruption in water supply through pipelines and hence tankers were introduced.
Expressing their frustration, the residents had organized a ‘Chakka Jaam’ or roadblock at NH4 on May 12, 2023, at Panchayat Chowk. After which, NHIDCL officials, Tehsildar, and APWD E.E. assured a resolution within one month, but to date, the issue remains unresolved for Sitanagar Gram Panchayat. The residents are now requesting the Chief Secretary to intervene in this issue and order immediate action to resume water supply through pipelines to these residents of wards number 3 (half)4,5,6 and 7 under Sitanagar Panchayat. As summer is approaching residents are fearing to face more serious issues related to water supply in the coming days.
