Port Blair, Jan 14: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), in association with the Andaman Nicobar Police Department (Traffic), is proud to announce the commencement of a comprehensive Road Safety Awareness Campaign during the National Road Safety Week, which runs from January 11th to 17th, 2024. This initiative aims to actively involve youth volunteers in promoting road safety norms, collaborating with traffic management efforts, and conducting extensive awareness activities.
The program, organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Port Blair, in association with Andaman Nicobar Police Department (Traffic) and PM Mr. KV No-1, selected 25 dedicated cadets from PM Shree KV School No 1, Port Blair, to participate in this impactful campaign. The campaign was officially launched by the Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 12th, 2024.
Preceding the deployment activities, an orientation training session was conducted on January 11th, 2024. During the training, Traffic Police Training Officer provided valuable insights into road safety rules and regulations. Today, Mr. Vikash Swami, IPS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the critical need for awareness on road safety and the importance of volunteering support.
Mr. Swami highlighted the staggering statistic that approximately 1.5 lakh people lose their lives in road accidents in the country every year, which is equivalent to half the population of these islands. The human cost is immeasurable, and the economic burden on the families of the deceased is profound. Mr. Ajay Rai, Dy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), and Dr. Sunita Patil were also present to support the cause.
Mr. Sukhvinder Singh, Principal, KV No.1, attended as the Guest of Honor, urging the youth to strictly adhere to traffic rules and prioritize safety measures to prevent any unwanted loss of lives. Mr. Abdul Safiq, Inspector Traffic, actively engaged the youth at crucial traffic points in Port Blair, providing practical training alongside traffic officials.
Earlier, Mr. Gopal CH Biswas of Nehru Yuva Kendra Port Blair welcomed the esteemed guests, briefing them on the aims and objectives of the program. He highlighted the vision and mission of NYKS, emphasizing the collective awakening required for road safety. Mr. Biswas concluded by proposing a vote of thanks.
This Road Safety Awareness Campaign signifies the collective commitment of NYKS, the Andaman Nicobar Police Department (Traffic), and other stakeholders to promote a safer and more responsible road culture. Together, the strive to make a lasting impact and reduce the alarming statistics of road accidents in the region.
