Port Blair, Jan 10: In the dynamic landscape of law enforcement, the achievements of the Nicobar District Police in 2023 underscore their unwavering dedication to excellence and community well-being. A total of 165 cases, including 11 IPC cases, 24 POCSO cases, 5 IT Act cases, 2 NDPS cases (involving 2.304 KG Methamphetamine & 1.100 KG Cocaine), and 123 Excise cases(Seized:, were meticulously addressed, resulting in an impressive 99% workout rate. Going beyond traditional policing, the Nicobar District Police organized 879 awareness campaigns addressing critical societal issues such as POCSO Act violations, drug addiction, drunken driving, cybercrime, and adherence to traffic rules. During the year 1055 Summons and 171 Warrants were received from various Courts of A&N Islands in entire Nicobar District. All the Summons and Warrants were successfully executed, achieving a 100% execution rate.
Every police station in the Nicobar district took a proactive stance against bootlegging, conducting frequent jungle searches. As a result in 123 cases a total of 128 Ltrs. IMFL, 3 Ltrs. beer, 307 Ltrs. illicit liquor, Lehan destroyed -4500 lit and 96 Kgs Handia was seized across Nicobar District. The initiatives for traffic safety were robust, with 2130 challans issued, collecting fines amounting to Rs. 11,32,000/-. Additionally, 54 individuals driving under the influence of alcohol were apprehended, reinforcing the commitment to public safety.
A pivotal moment occurred on 14/02/2023 when a timely response from the PS Car Nicobar team saved the life of Timothy, who had jumped into the sea at Malacca jetty.
Further accolades were earned during the inauguration of the “ShaeediSmarak” at Car Nicobar by the Director General of Police, A&N Islands. Inauguration of the Repeater Station and Police Assistance Booth at Car Nicobar and MPOC and Transit Accommodation at Campbell Bay ensuring enhanced facilities. highlighted a dedication to high standards and community welfare. These achievements collectively embody Nicobar District Police unwavering commitment to public safety and the continuous enhancement of law enforcement capabilities in the region.
During the year initiative “Children Police Dialogue” was launched at Campbell Bay by A&N Police under the leadership of SDPO, Campbell Bay and guidance of SP Nicobar District for children to visit the Police station, fostering an understanding of Policing work and building trust between Police and younger generation. On the occasion, almost 200 Teachers including School Students, their parents, Local Administrative Officials and PRIs were present.
Another initiative “WE CARE: Bridging Generations” was launched by DGP, A&NI, Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, with aim to provide support and companionship to senior citizens but also to raise awareness about the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens. This plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of our elderly population. A committed team of Police Officers from Campbell Bay Sub-Division, led by the Station House Officer of PS Campbell Bay embarked on a comprehensive door-to-door survey. This initiative spanned all villages under three Gram Panchayats in the Great Nicobar Islands and the team submitted their survey report. On this occasion Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Deputy Inspector General of Police (L&O), and Superintendent of Police (Nicobar District) delivered the keynote address.
During the year Police personnel of Police Station Katchal, team led to the successful apprehension of 10 Myanmarese poachers in the West Bay area of Katchal Island. This significant accomplishment underscores their dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to duty. Their relentless pursuit of justice and protection of our natural resources reflect the highest standards of law enforcement and serve as a testament to their exemplary service.
Police team from PS Nancowry in coordination with INS Kardip rescued one person who jumped in sea from MV Nalanda ship. During rescue operation police and PMF staff have shown their extraordinary skill and devotion towards duty and saved a precious life.
During the year 186 Case properties related to various cases registered in Nicobar District were disposed across various police stations in Nicobar District. Also, 49 Unnatural death case final reports were got accepted through respective SDMs in Nicobar Districts
In addition to commemorating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ all Police Stations organized diverse awareness programs centred around the theme ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh, Mati Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in a befitting manner. These initiatives aimed to enlighten both the general public and students within Nicobar District to foster deeper connection to our land and paying homage to the valorous souls who shaped our nation’s history.”
During 2023 various vacancies has been published by Andaman and Nicobar Administration under various category and tribal candidate as well local aspirant from other district also appeared for the same. As a matter of concern and being a dedicated law enforcement agency Nicobar district police under “Udaan Initiative” conducted coaching classes for the aspirants and a total of 80-90 aspirants including tribal youths and local residents were benefitted from the coaching classes.
Throughout the year, numerous significant religious festivals, village celebrations, and visits from VIPs, politicians, judges, etc., in Nicobar district transpired smoothly. Adequate arrangements were meticulously put in place to ensure the seamless conclusion of these pivotal events and visits.
Additionally, the 7th Edition of the esteemed Dr. B Srikant Memorial Cricket Tournament took place in Car Nicobar. A total of 21 teams enthusiastically participated, and the coveted cup was clinched by A&N Police in a thrilling match witnessed by the Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Also, Nicobar District Police organised a self defense class with the the slogan “Darna Nahi Ladna Hai” for the students. Under this program students of GSSS Malacca, Car Nicobar were demonstrated UAC (Un Armed Combat) through Nukkad Natak and some techniques for self defence were also displayed by the police team.
Further, police personnel of Nicobar District were empowered with knowledge of vital CPR and First Aid training sessions, equipping participants to respond to emergencies like electric shocks, heart attacks, or drowning.
Also Nicobar District Police celebrated Police Flag Day, Police Commemoration Day, & Rashtriya Ekta Diwas with a dedicated plantation drive and various programs.
