Port Blair, Feb 03: As a part of 36th Coast Guard Anniversary celebrations, a reception was hosted by Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) on 1st Feb 13 at 1930 hrs at Coast Guard Ship Support Complex premises to CG Wharf.
Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Bhawanee Singh, the first Lady of the Islands was also present. The dignitaries from the Civil and Military establishments including the Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command, Air Marshal PK Roy AVSM, VM, VSM, Chief Secretary Shri Anand Prakash were present.
The event commenced with traditional cake cutting ceremony. IG Murthy assisted by the junior most Coast Guard Officer, Asst Comdt Sweta Rana did the honour in presence of Lt Governor. Thereafter, a colourful cultural programme added glitter to the ceremony.
On completion of the cultural programme, The Taut Ship Trophy for overall excellence in perations/ Administration for CG Ships based at A&N region was awarded to Indian Coast Guard Ship Aruna Asaf Ali by the Lt Governor. The Trophy was received by the Commanding Officer, Commandant MS Gill and Chief Boatswainmate RP Singh, Adhikari(QA).
During the course of function, Lt Governor also interacted
with all the dignitaries present and complemented Coast Guard for
amply demonstrating its ability to respond swiftly and decisively to
any challenging situations such as anti-poaching, SAR and disaster relief and also dedicated efforts of Coast Guard in coordinating with all stakeholders towards coastal security.
