Port Blair, Jan. 28: A reporter of a local daily, Mr. Shamin was arrested by the Police yesterday night at 12.15 am on charges of eve teasing. It is learnt that the reporter was picked up by Police Control Room Vehicle from Goal Ghar area and was kept at PS Aberdeen over night. Later the scribe was released on bail today.
According to report, Mrs. Ratna Kannan, the Chairperson of Social Welfare Advisory Board, who was passing by Goal Ghar yesterday night, had called the PCR van to safe guard the girls from eve teasing.
The journalist fraternity of A&N Islands have expressed shock over the issue; many of them feel that appropriate action should be initiated if the case goes against the reporter.
“Law is for all, whether a journalist or a common man. I expect the Law enforcers to take stern action if the reporter he is found guilty”, stated Mr. Karikalvalavan, General Secretary, A & N Small Newspapers’ Association.
