Port Blair, Oct 03: A badminton tournament was organised at Netaji Sports complex badminton court, Mayabunder on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, in men’s doubles and Mixed doubles category where Mr. Ashish Joon, AC, HQ Mayabunder was the Chief Guest, and Mr. Arif, S.H.O, P.S Mayabunder was the Guest of Honour and Mr. Abdul Siddique Ex- Pramukh Mayabunder, Mr. Pradeep Sharma and Arti Singh (PMB Dept) were called as Special Guests to mark the occasion.
This is the first time Mixed Doubles matches have been conducted at Mayabunder to motivate and promote the female participants who can compete alongside men. The Mixed doubles title was won by team Mr. Rohit & Ms. Saubhagya and the 2nd and 3rd position was secured by team Mr. Noble Varghese & Ms. Naw Sase and Mr. Rafique & Ms. Egleena respectively.
The Men’s doubles finals which was played on 2nd October 2023 witnessed the emphatic win by the team of Mr. Saw Tatoo & Shiv over Mr. Rafique & Guru (2nd position) followed by Mr. Rohit & Raghunath securing the 3rd position.
Later on Mr. Ashish Joon, AC HQ, Mayabunder along with other invitees distributed the prizes and congratulated all the winners and also encouraged the youth and organizers to organize many such events in the future in a grand manner.
