Baratang, July 25: Chaos erupted in Lokrachaung village, Baratang, Middle Andaman, last night as a massive tree, along with an electric pole, fell on the main road, disrupting movement of vehicles.
The incident led to a power outage in the entire Lokrachaung area, which lasted until late afternoon today. Adding to the woes of the residents, BSNL network services were also affected due to the fallen tree. The darkness and lack of connectivity added to the inconvenience faced by the residents during the ordeal.
This morning, officials from the Fire, Electricity, and APWD (Andaman Public Works Department) sprang into action upon receiving reports of the incident. As per details around 7:00 AM today, villagers informed the Fire Station, Electricity, and APWD departments about the obstructed main road connecting the village.
Without delay, a joint team comprising personnel from the Baratang Police, Fire Department, APWD, Forest Department, and Electricity Department was mobilized to the scene. The collaborative effort allowed for a swift clearance of the fallen tree and the electric pole, ensuring the road’s reopening for traffic.
The sheer size of the tree made the clearance process challenging and time-consuming, taking approximately 45 minutes to complete. However, thanks to the prompt response and efficient coordination among the departments, the inconvenience caused to commuters was limited to around 45 minutes.
