Baratang, Middle Andaman, July 20: While the South Andaman region is grappling with frequent power cuts, the situation in Baratang Island is no better. As per details, the residents of Baratang Island in Middle Andaman region are facing a challenging situation as they are witnessing frequent power fluctuations and outages persisting for the past month. Many villages in the region have registered complaints with the Electricity Department in Baratang, urging immediate action to rectify the problem and restore stable power supply.
The impact of these power disruptions has been far-reaching, affecting not only the daily lives of the residents but also the smooth functioning of essential services, including the local hospital and other government departments. Residents have reported incidents of light bulbs, tube-lights, and electrical appliances getting damaged due to voltage fluctuations.
One of the concerned residents of Baratang stated, “We have been experiencing voltage fluctuations throughout the entire area for the past few months. The inconsistent power supply is not only frustrating but also causing severe inconvenience to us.”
When contacted, an official from the Electricity Department in Middle Andaman claimed that they have not received any formal complaints regarding power cuts from Baratang. The official further explained, “We have been providing power supply to the entire Baratang region, including Kadamtala up to Bakultala area. In case of any reported power faults, we immediately investigate and restore power. Recently, during cyclonic weather conditions, power interruptions were experienced due to strong winds. However, as of now, the situation is stable and power supply has been restored.”
While the Electricity Department maintains that they are closely monitoring the situation, the residents of Baratang are hopeful for a swift resolution to their power woes and a return to uninterrupted electricity supply.
