Hut Bay Netaji Nagar, July 18: After a prolonged period of demand, the State Transport Services (STS) has finally reinstated bus services for school children of 8 KM Settlement area of Netaji Nagar, Hut Bay. This development has brought immense relief to over 1,000 residents residing in Ward Numbers 1, 2, and 3 of the village.
Previously, the village only had two bus trips, in the morning and evening, upon which hundreds of villagers, including women and children, heavily relied. However, the service was discontinued a year ago due to poor road conditions and a shortage of buses in the region.
In response to the persistent demand from the villagers, the STS department has now provided special bus services exclusively for school-going children. The resumption of these services has brought great joy and a sense of safety to the residents. Previously, for the past year, their children had to endure nearly 2 to 3kilometer walk to reach school. With the reintroduction of bus services, the villagers are grateful for the convenience and safety it offers.
Mr. Vasudeven Nair, the Zilla Parishad Member of Hut Bay has expressed his satisfaction after this development. He mentioned that the demand for bus services for school children had been raised for a considerable time. Recently, they had a meeting with the in-charge of the STS department in Little Andaman, who assured them of restarting the bus services specifically for school children. Furthermore, the in-charge promised to expand the bus services in the coming days.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Babul Das, Pradhan of Netaji Nagar said that yesterday marked the resumption of the bus service for school children, and the villagers extend their heartfelt gratitude to the STS Hut Bay in-charge for their efforts and coordination in making this possible.
