Port Blair, July 12: A fierce fire today engulfed a residential house located at School Line Junction, opposite the community hall. Local residents immediately alerted the Fire Control Room around 07:00 pm, leading to the rapid dispatch of six fire tenders to the scene.
Efficiently coordinating their efforts, the fire department swiftly deployed fire tenders, including a Water Bowser from the Fire Station Headquarters, Marine, and Garacharama, to combat the raging fire. Remarkably, within just half an hour, the diligent firefighters successfully brought the flames under control, preventing further destruction. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are underway.
The incident took place in an old wooden structure, serving as a joint family residential house. The fire initially started in a room on the first floor and quickly spread throughout the entire building. The intensity of the fire was exacerbated by the explosion of a gas cylinder, causing significant damage to nearby houses due to the intense heat. Despite the valiant efforts of the firefighters, with the invaluable support of the police, the wooden structure facilitated the rapid spread of the flames, resulting in the complete gutting of the building.
Initial estimates suggest that approximately ten lakhs worth of materials were lost in the devastating fire. Authorities suspect that the fire may have originated from an old electrical wire line in the house, potentially causing a short circuit. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
