Port Blair, June 23: In a collaborative effort, a joint team comprising officials from the Forest Department and the Police successfully conducted a patrol operation and confiscated a substantial number of illegal logs in Hut Bay Tehsil. Led by Forest officials from the V.K Pur Range Office and officers from Hut Bay Police Station, the team seized approximately 1.2 cubic meters of logs located in the Pattar Nallah Islands.
This recent seizure follows another significant operation conducted by the Forest Department a few days ago, where a substantial quantity of saw timber belonging to category three was confiscated within the jungle under the VK Pur range.
Under the leadership of Forest Ranger Pradeep Nair, the team from the V.K Pur Range forest division, consisting of Forest Guards Rafique, Bicharan Mondal, and Cane, joined forces with SI Regan Isaac and his team from the Hut Bay Police Station. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Dilip D’souza, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Little Andaman.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the joint team executed a thorough patrol on the outskirts of the Pattar Nallah islands. During their patrol, they stumbled upon a significant number of illegal logs concealed within the jungle.
Illegal logging poses a serious threat to the environment, leading to deforestation, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss. The collaborative actions undertaken by the Forest Department and the Police has been lauded by public of the region.
