Port Blair, June 14: In a recent development, local fishermen from Rangat have reported the illegal activities of a trawler boat fishing outside the Rangat Bay sea. Acting upon this information, a concerned fisherman promptly notified Pradhan Nimbutala Panchayat and the Rangat Police Station.
Following the alert, a police team swiftly responded and successfully intercepted the fishing trawler, which was found engaging in illegal fishing activities approximately 2.1 nautical miles away from the Rangat Bay shoreline. This act was in direct violation of the A&N Marine Fishing Regulation Act.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the trawler had a crew of five members, including one master. The authorities seized the vessel and detained it along with approximately 600 kilograms of fish. Subsequently, the detained trawler and its contents were handed over to the Fisheries Department in Rangat for further legal action to be taken.
