Port Blair, Dec 03: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, INTUC has written a letter to the Director of Shipping on 17th December, 2012 and stated that the Inter Island passenger ship MV Campbell Bay has shortage of staff.
The certified manning strength of the ship’s crew is 41, where as the ship, since inception of her voyage in the inter island sector is plying with 37 crew.
This shortage of crew and the need for the same was expressed by the Master of the ship vide Email dt 9th October, 2012 to the DSS and also to the SCI.
Accordingly Mr. Sharma has demanded to fulfill the vacant posts of two General stewards, one saloon utility hand and one deck utility hand at an early date.
Earlier to this Sharma has also demanded for making effective of the Air conditioning system in crew accommodation, linen for the crew members and making the crew saloon and galley fridge operational in MV Dering.
As per the report, now all the posts have been filled in MV Campbell Bay. Demands of INTUC for the crew members of MV Derring have also been fulfilled for which Sharma recorded his gratitude towards the Director of Shipping services.
Mr. Sharma hoped that demands for filling up of vacancies of 4 crew members in MV Kalighat and sanctioning and disbursing of the inconvenience allowance due to crew in view of the vessel’s Annual Passenger Survey (APS) and repairs for the crew members of MV Derring will also be considered by the Director of Shipping services at his earliest.
