Port Blair, Dec 27: A two-day multispecialty medical camp with specialists from INHS DHANVANTARI was organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Command with local support from civil health authorities at CHC Diglipur on 19th and 20th of Dec 2012. A total of 445 patients were examined that included children, pregnant ladies, patients with chronic problems like diabetes and hypertension and other. ENT check-up and gynaecological examinations were also conducted by the team.
Ultrasound scanning was done at the location. By the radiologist and along with antenatal scans, few serious and treatable conditions were also diagnosed. Few cases were also referred to GB Pant Hospital and INHS Dhanvantari, Port Blair for follow up. Prior appointments for the pregnant ladies and other patients were arranged by the Chief Medical Officer and the medical team of the CHC Diglipur.
The response of the public to the camp conducted was overwhelming and immensely gratifying. This camp was unique in the manner that portable ultrasound machine was used in the camp with as many as total 205 ultrasounds were carried out at the doorstep. The medical and child OPD benefited almost 165 patients with varying lifestyle diseases, especially diabetes and hypertension. The ENT specialist gave consultation to 75 patients.
The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been carrying out such medical and preventive health camps frequently as a part of its Community Outreach Programme. Camps held in the past include locations as diverse as Neil Island, Car Nicobar, Diglipur, Hut Bay, Long Island, Teressa Island and Campbell Bay. The medical team of INHS Dhanvantari has always been at the forefront of all the health related activities of the Command.
The Directorate of Health Services has also been participating in these camps on an equal footing with whole hearted, support, for conduct of medical camps in these far flung islands.
