The city of Port Blair is facing a major issue of road congestion, particularly during school opening and closing hours. This is not only causing inconvenience to residents and commuters, but is also posing serious risk to children as there is a mad rush among people to drop children to school on time.
The lack of proper parking facilities is one of the major contributing factors to this issue.
In a city where the population is rapidly growing and the number of vehicles on the road is increasing at an alarming rate, it is imperative that more parking areas are created to deal with the problem of road congestion.
The current parking situation in Port Blair is far from ideal, with many areas of the city being completely devoid of any parking facilities. This forces commuters to park their vehicles on the side of the road, blocking traffic and causing delays.
One solution to this problem is to construct double storey parking areas in key locations throughout the city. This will not only provide much needed parking spaces, but will also help to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, thus reducing congestion. It will also help to make the city more pedestrian friendly, making it easier for people to walk and cycle around the city.
The Netaji Stadium Parking area was originally designed in such a way to make it a double or triple storey parking area but later the plan was changed. If the Netaji Parking area and Parking Area infront of ASI building is made double storey then a lot of parking problems in the Bazaar will end.
Another issue that needs to be addressed is the problem of road congestion during the opening and closing times of schools. Many students and their parents face a great deal of difficulty in reaching school on time due to the heavy traffic on the roads. This not only causes stress and anxiety for students, but also affects their academic performance.
It is essential that the city of Port Blair takes immediate steps to address the problem of road congestion. The construction of more parking areas, including double storey parking areas, is a vital step in this direction.
