Port Blair, Jan 17: On a tip-off regarding illegal possession and trade of Wildlife articles at about 2030 Hrs, a team was constituted under the leadership of Mr. R. Raghu, Forest Guard. Mr. Niranjan Podder S/o Late. C. R. Podder regular mazdoor Mr. ParameshwarBaral S/o Mr. JitenBaral, regular Mazdoor and Mr. Deb Kumar Sider S/o Late. Nagen Sikder regular Mazdoor. The team camouflage themselves in different dark places to nab the offender. In the meantime one of the team members, Mr. Niranjan Podder S/o. Late C.K. Podder noticed one suspected person, holding one shopping bag. Mr. Niranjan Podder immediately stopped the suspected person and asked him about the material inside the bag. As he was asked, he tried to run away, but due to the effort of Mr. Niranjan Podder, he succeeded to nab him and noticed 02 Kgs. Andaman Wild Pig Meat and 02 Kgs. Spotted Deer meat inside the Bag. On hearing the sound of affray, the remaining team member also reached the spot and nabbed the accused person on the spot red handed and seized the meat from his possession. In the meantime the Range Officer, Bakultala Mr. S.P. Roy himself also reached the spot and arrested the accused person namely Mr. Romanus Dhanwar S/o. Mr. NoasDhanwar R/o. Kalsi. Later the accused person was produced to the Honorable Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate. Mayabunder on 15/01/2023 and sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
The entire operation was carried out under the direct and close supervision of Mr. S.P. Roy, Range Officer, Bakultala and overall direction of Assistant Conservator of Forests, Mr. Anil Saha [SFS] and Mr. Sandeep DibjyotiBehra, IFS. Divisional Forest Officer, Middle Andaman.
