Port Blair, Jan 12: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Defence Minister of India to conduct regular recruitment drives of Army, Navy and Air Force in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, so that Islands youths, who grow up with the dream of serving our Nation can join Indian Armed Forces and serve our country.
In a letter addressed to the Defence Minister of India, New Delhi, he mentioned that this is a matter of extreme pride that a large number of youths from Andaman and Nicobar Islands are either serving the armed forces in different ranks or have retired after serving 15 to 20 years in Defence Services. “Many youths of these Islands have raised to very high rank in Defence Forces to make Andaman proud while there are many Heroes of Andaman, who have made supreme sacrifice while protecting our country,” he added.
The Member of Parliament added that for youths of Andaman and Nicobar Islands a job in Defence is not only a source of income but also a passion, for which they are highly motivated.
He pointed out that before 2019 Andaman and Nicobar Islands used to witness various recruitment drives in Andaman and Nicobar Islands conducted by Army, Air Force and sometime Indian Navy but since 2019 Islanders have not seen any ‘major’ recruitment drive for Army, Navy or Air Force.
The Member of Parliament informed the Defence Minister that the youths of Andaman and Nicobar islands are anxiously waiting for a job in the Defence Forces.
He added that unemployment is a major issue in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and regular recruitment drives by Armed Forces can solve this problem to a great extent.
Hence he requested the Defence Minister to conduct regular recruitment drives of Army, Navy and Air Force in A & N Islands, exclusively for youths of these Islands.
