I express my warm greetings to all the Islanders on the occasion of ‘National Consumer Day’ on 24thDecember, 2022. It gives me immense pleasure to know that the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs is celebrating “National Consumer Day” in these Islands along with the rest of country on the theme “Effective disposal of cases in Consumer Commissions”.
As the archipelago of A&N Island has 1912 Km long coastline from Diglipur in North to Campbell Bay in the extreme South, UT Administration implemented e-Daakhilto facilitate Consumers to file complaints from anywhere irrespective of their physical location. Mediation being an alternate dispute redressal solution, for fair, cost friendly and quick disposal of consumer disputes, the Administration established a Mediation Cell under the A&N State Commission. The Government has also taken proactive steps by encouraging the use of electronic mediation (e-mediation) and e-hearing to overcome approach barriers. Dedicated Lok Adalats are being held to take up the pending cases with Consumer Commissions.
This occasion reinforces the need to sensitize people towards adoption of e-filing of consumer complaints through the e-daakhil portal.
I call upon the people of these Islands to work together and participate in the celebrations in solidarity with consumer movement.
I wish a grand success to this endeavour.
