Port Blair, Nov 17 : The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to examine the issue of reservation of B.V.Sc course seats for A & N Island students by scrutinising the proposal of Pondicherry Veterinary College already pending with A & N Administration and issue necessary instructions so that students can get the admission from the current session itself.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Member of Parliament highlighted the problems being faced by the Andaman & Nicobar Island students for getting admission in veterinary Science stream (B.V.Sc.& A.H) in mainland colleges.
He mentioned that whenever students from Andaman approaches in state for admission in studying Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc.) degree courses then the state universities ask for a Domicile Certificate.
He added that in all states around 85% B.V.Sc seats are reserved and filled from their own candidates and only 15% seats are left for All India competition which are meagre in number. Therefore it becomes difficult for students of these Islands to compete at the National level for limited seats.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that there is a shortage of Veterinary Doctors in A & N Islands. As per 2019 livestock census there are around cattle -36438 Nos., Buffalo 3700 Nos. Goats 69781, pig 90488 Nos., comprising livestock 145394 Nos. whereas Poultry population accounts for 1283746 Nos. scattered all over the Islands.
He pointed out that the Pondicherry Veterinary College came forward and offered five seats for our Andaman & Nicobar Island students on certain conditions and a proposal was prepared by A & N Veterinary Council and submitted to A & N Administration for further examination and approval which is pending at Education Department for clarification.
