Port Blair, Nov 14: The former Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration Jitendra Narain, a suspended senior IAS officer of AGMUT Cadre, was sent to JudicialCustody for 14 days by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Port Blair this afternoon at Port Blair.
Earlier the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate had sent Narain for three days Police Remand on November 11,2022.
He was arrested after a sessions court in the Union Territory rejected his plea for anticipatory bail on 10, November 2022, which had earlier been granted to him.
On October 1, 2022,Jitendra Narain, A&N Labour Commissioner R L Rishi and a few others were named in an FIR filed at the Aberdeen police station in Port Blair, based on the complaint of a 21-year-old woman.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), on 17 October 2022 placed Jitendra Narain under suspension with immediate effect.
As per a government release, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had received a report on 16.10.2022 from Andaman & Nicobar Police regarding the alleged sexual assault of a lady by Jitendra Narain, IAS (AGMUT:1990), the then Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and others.
The release added that as the Report indicated the possibility of grave misconduct and misuse of official position on the part of Jitendra Narain, IAS (AGMUT:1990), the Union Home Minister directed to take immediate strict action against the officer concerned as per law.
Earlier on October 27 JitendraNarain, former Chief Secretary Andaman and Nicobar Administration had reached Port Blair from Delhi following a Calcutta High Court order to appear before a Special Investigation Team, which is probing alleged gangrape charges against him.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Sandeep Singh, 38 year, businessman of Port Blair alias Rinku, whose name also appeared in the Andaman Gang Rape Case was reportedly arrested yesterday at Haryana Border, following efforts by Andaman and Nicobar Police, sources said.
He was brought Port Blair today and he will be produced to court tomorrow. Sandeep Singh was absconding since FIR was lodged and R L Rishi is still absconding.
