Port Blair, Nov 14: Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organizing Committee, who is currently on a tour to Middle & North Andaman, visited the Dr Rajendra Prasad District Hospital, Mayabunder today (14.11.2022) and met the Medical Superintendent and discussed with him various issues pertaining to health care system in Mayabunder area. Mr. Ayyappan expressed concern over the shortage of medical officers and nurses in the hospital. Posts of Specialists are lying vacant in the hospital and no effort has been made by the Health Department to post Specialist doctors.
He had also visited Govt. Sr Secondary School, Mayabunder and came to know that there is a shortage of a large number of teachers in the school. Most of the schools in the Mayabunder area do not have a Principal or Vice Principal.
On getting complaints from the fishermen that ice for the fishermen is not available in the Ice Plan of the Fisheries Department at Mayabunder, he visited the Ice plant and office of the Fisheries Department and found that the department has failed to meet the requirements of the fishermen of Mayabunder area. Fishermen also complained to the CPI (M) Secretary that they are not getting any benefit from the Fisheries Department.
