Port Blair, Nov 13: The Mayabunder Zonal Conference of the CITU was held at Mayabunder today (13.11.2022). Inaugurating the Conference, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, and CITU State Committee explained in detail the various anti- working class decisions of the A&N Administration which were being resisted by the CITU and trade unions all over the islands. He said that the Administration is not accepting even the orders of the High Court and Supreme Court and is pushing the workers to spend their hard earned money for litigation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee said that the BJP government at the center is taking away whatever rights and benefits enjoyed by the workers in the country by introducing the four labor codes after abolishing a large number of labor laws which were in force even before independence. He said that all the public sector undertakings in the country are being sold out to corporations. He further said that the promises made by the BJP during the Parliament elections in 2014 and 2019 are turned out to be hollow promises as none of the promises has been fulfilled so far. He expressed concern over the spiraling prices and unemployment in the country.
Mr. Rahul Dev Mridha, CPI (M) leader and Advocate, Mrs. Shipra Bala, CITU State Committee Member and Mr. Anand Rajan, Treasurer, ASNVMS also spoke on the occasion. Mr. PK Khalid, Secretary, CITU State Committee presided.
The Conference elected Mr. K. Muralidharan Pillai as President, Mr. M. Murugeshan as Secretary and Mr. Ramesh Pradhan as Treasurer of the new Zonal Committee of the CITU. A number of resolutions on various issues relating to the workers in general and those in Mayabunder particularly were also adopted in the conference. A large number of workers ofMayabunder and adjoining areas working in various departments and organizations attended the conference.
