Port Blair, Oct 20: National Students Union of India, State President Mr. M.A Sajid hasdemanded the Prime Minister of India for establishing The CentralUniversity in Andaman & Nicobar Islands instead of the proposed DeemedUniversity.
In his letter, Mr. Sajid said that establishment of DeemedUniversity is decided in an arbitrary manner and no further discussionswere made by any of the stakeholders in establishing such proposed DeemedUniversity.
He Pointed out towards the Union Territory, Ladakh where the population isapproximately 2.3 lakhs and the distance between Central University ofJammu with Ladakh is 273 Km in which the government has decided toestablish a Central University whereas on Andaman & Nicobar Islands thereis approximately 5 lakhs above population with a distance of 1400 Km frommainland and has the potential to attract Asian nations for being educatedwith the Central University.
He said that if the proposed deemed University establishes in Andaman &Nicobar Islands then the whole control of the authority will be managed bythe Andaman & Nicobar Administration who already failed to solve the issuesbeing faced by the students of A & N Islands.
He also took a point in view to the autonomous nature of the centralUniversity in which they provide adequate quality of education and provideknowledge towards smooth functioning of Democracy of our Nation.
Mr. M.A Sajid further mentioned the fees structure of the Deemed Universitywhich is higher as compared to the Central University through which a Poorfarmer and Backward Community Person Can’t afford it.
He further requested The Prime Minister to establish a Central Universityin view of the priorities of the Islanders and to diminish the proposedDeemed University from Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
