Port Blair, Oct 16: The Lions Club of Port Blair in association with the Department of Homescience, JNRM,and Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration organised a massive Blood Donation Camp to commemorate the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bharat RatnaDr A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former President of India on 15th October 2022 in JNRM New Block.
During the inauguration the Chief Guest Mr.Kalaivanan.R, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District shared his experience and the interaction he had with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam while he was a student. Mr.Kalaivanan.R, IPS explained the importance of students life in campus by utilising the available resources and also in outside the campus by involving various social activities like blood donation, tree plantation, drug abuse prevention and traffic management & regulation. Mr.Kalaivanan.R, IPS has narrated the experience of reading the Wings of Fire-Autobiography of Dr Kalam which is the inspiration for many like him in the length and breadth of country. This is the book through which one can have the positive attitude and hard work which were the main motto of Dr Kalam while addressing the students and youth in our country.
Dr.H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM, informed the gathering that in collaboration with the Lions Club of Port Blair every year JNRM is organising various activities. Dr Kalam was a visionary and his ideas are always for the development of our country. Despite he hails from the humble background nothing can prevented him from achieving the mission. He is the real role model for the student community, Dr. Sharma, added. MJF.Ln.G.Somasundaram, Past President, Lions Club of Port Blair presented the activities under the banner of Lions Club like Health, Environment, Water and Sanitation. He dwelt in detail about the Service Motto of Lions Club for the society. MJF.Ln.G.Somasundaram further informed the gathering that Student Social Activities like Swachh Bharat, Clean India are also carried out by Lions Club of Port Blair. Abdul Kani, Joint Treasurer, Lion. G.Anitha, Treasurer and other office bearers were present on the occasion.
Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Coordinator of this programme spoke about Dr Kalam’s innovation in Science & Technology and his contribution in Missile & Nano Technology. He also shared PURA Model and administered Ten points oath to the student community. Earlier Mrs.NidhiShekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science welcomed the gathering and Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks. Mrs. Poonam Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme. In this connection Poster Competition was also conducted on “Kalam’s Vision and India’s Development”. Ms. Shailey, Ms. Rameetha, Ms. Shubha Lakshmi of 2nd B.Sc., Home Science got the 1st , 2nd and 3rd prize respectively in poster competition. The prizes and donor certificate for Blood Donation were distributed by the dignitaries.
