Port Blair, Oct 04: A National Symposium on “Harmonizing Land Use for Emerging Challenges and Opportunities in the Island and Coastal Region” is jointly organized by the Andaman Science Association (ASA), ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh at CIARI from 12th to 13th October 2022.
The concept of understanding and addressing the concerns of PanchMahabhoot in agriculture was initiated by some like-minded organizations and persons in India. The initiative aims to present profound and pragmatic solutions to the challenges based on the Bharatiya Philosophy concerning the present agricultural crisis. The agricultural crisis has severely affected nature’s basic elements like earth, water, fire, air, and space. Land and water are the essential elements of PanchMahabhoot. Thus, it is vital to secure its wholesomeness and attain order, balance, or harmony, between these elements, for the survival and sustainability of human and other lives on earth.
In this context, the National Symposium will bring together leading scientists, land managers and progressive farmers to exchange and share their experiences and research findings on all aspects of sustainable management of soil, water and soil biodiversity. It will also provide an interdisciplinary platform to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted for sustainable land management in the Island and coastal regions. The thematic area for discussion are: a) Land &water resources – Status and challenges, b) Alternate management practices to reverse land and water resource degradation, c) Emerging opportunities for sustainable land and water use, d) Tradition / ITK in land and water management, and e) Challenges and experiences of farmers in land and water management.
