
Port Blair, Sept 07: In a major crackdown against bootlegging activities and menace of illicit liquor, 600 Litres of Lehan from which illicit liquor is prepared was recovered from Malacca Village, Car Nicobar and subsequently destroyed by Police.
On 07.09.22, a team of PS Car Nicobar comprising of HC/546 M S Anil Kumar, HC (IRBn)/509 Malachi & PC/2938 Dona Doni under the supervision of Inspector Rahul, SHO PS Car Nicobar, launched the search and combing operation in Malacca Village, Car Nicobar to curb the menace of illicit liquor. The said operation was carried out in the wee hours of Wednesday. In this operation, Police trekked deep inside the forest and recovered around 600 liters of Lehan (raw material) in 05 nos of plastic drums hidden inside the woods for fermentation, 3 temporary working stills and around 2 quintals of wood to be used for distillation. The recovered materials were destroyed on the spot.
This is the 18th successful raid against bootleggers and the 4th Jungle search to crack the whip against illicit liquor. Local residents highly appreciated the action of the Police. In addition to strict enforcement,a mass public awareness campaign has been launched to spread awareness about ill-effects of drug abuse among youths and the general public. Awareness programmes on “Alcohol/Drug Abuse” are being conducted in Schools, with Community leaders and other stakeholders. Nicobar Police is committed to take stern action against bootleggers, illicit liquor, drug peddlers and other illegal activities.
