Port Blair, Sep 01: As part of the ongoing protest by the B.Tech students of Dr. BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Port Blair supported by the ABVP, A&N Islands, a Protest Rally from DBRAIT to Secretariat was organized by the protesting students today.
A large number of students participated in the protest rally demanding that the DBRAIT should fulfill all the conditions specified by Pondicherry University. Students further informed that DBRAIT has not complied with many conditions specified by Pondicherry University and demanded an inquiry against the Principal of DBRAIT.
Students reached near the Secretariat and raised slogans and it was reported that during the protests nearly 16 protesting students were detained and brought to Police Station Humfrygunj.
According to the reports, Mr. Aditya Kumar Jha, Director of Education along with District Magistrate and Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha tried to convince the students to return back but they refused to comply.
Later, all the students demanded to release the detained students immediately and refused to clear the area. According to information at around 6.00 PM all detained students were released.
At around 08:00 PM, the students called off the protest for the day considering the safety of all the members but Mr. Sagar, Student President, ABVP, DBRAIT said that the protest will be continued tomorrow with the same intensity to bring justice for the DBRAIT students.
