Port Blair, Aug 28: The Up-Pradhan of GP Harinagar along with three others were arrested under IPC Section 306 for allgedly provoking a 45-year-old lady to commit suicide during a recent conflict in Billyground area.
It was reported that there was a dispute regarding ownership of a Textile shop between Mr. Sunil Das Gupta and his elder sister Mrs. Pratima Paul. Regarding the issue, Mrs. Pratima Paul lodged a complaint to the Sarpanch, GP Harinagar and on 23rd August 2022,after which the Sarpanch issued a direction in favour of Mrs. Pratima Paul and subsequently ordered Mr. Sunil Das Gupta to leave the possession of the Textile Shop immediately.
When, Mr. Sunil Das Gupta refused to leave the shop, it was alleged that Mr. Sunil Das Gupta was dragged out forcefully and the shop was locked in presence of some other PRI Members of the region. But later by disobeying the order, Mr. Sunil Das Gupta broke the lock and took possession of the shop.
After receiving the information on 24th August 2022, it was alleged that the PRI members of GP Harinagar reached the shop and physically assaulted Mr. Das and also his 18 years old son, as per details his wife Mrs. Dweepannita Das Gupta was manhandled by Mrs. Mamta Biswas and others.
It was reported that on 26th August 2022, Mrs. Dweepannita Das Gupta was found hanging from the ceiling fan by his son. Thereafter upon receiving the information, the staff of PS Billiground reached the spot, recorded the scenario and recovered a suicide note from the site of the suicide. The Police team followed all the formalities in presence of the Executive Magistrate and then the body was taken for postmortem.
Based on suicide notes and statements of the deceased husband and son, the PS Billiground collected substantial inputs and arrested Mrs. Mamta Biswas, up-Pradhan, GP Harinagar and three others under IPC Section 306 for allegedly provoking the lady to commit suicide.
After completing all the formalities all the accused were producedbefore the Honourable CJM Court at Mayabunder on 27th August 2022. The Honourable Judge after hearing both the Ld. Counsel, sent all the accused to 14 days of Judicial Custody.
