Port Blair, Aug 18: The bad luck of Directorate of Shipping Services with new ships seems to be continuing as after jinx in induction of MV Campbell Bay and MV Sindhu now the induction of MV Nalanda, scheduled tomorrow (19 August 2022) has been cancelled, sources said.
According to reports this decision was taken after the ship MV Nalanda today reportedly hit Haddo Port’s RCC structure while berthing at Gate no. 04 in Haddo Wharf. The impact was so hard that the new ship suffered minor damages and massive dents.
As per sources, the incident took place this morning while shifting the vessel to gate no. 04. However, no officials of the ship and DSS or PMB were reachable for a comment in this regard.
But Andaman Sheekha Daily has learned that the incident took place due to high wind while berthing in Jetty early this morning.
Source in the Shipping Services said that the vessel is safe and will be repaired soon before induction. It is further reported that a survey team was constituted to inquire about the issue and on 19th August 2022 the repair work will start. Sources said that only after approval of the Administration the vessel will be inducted and the sailing program will be scheduled.
