Port Blair, Aug 16: To commemorate the 75th Independence Day of India, a ceremonial parade was conducted at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair, A&N Islands. The parade proceedings commenced with a wreath laying by Lt. Governor Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd) at the National Memorial at Cellular Jail.
The Lt. Governor then hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at the Independence Day Parade coordinated by the HQ Andaman and Nicobar Command and comprising contingents from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and A&N Police.
Each of the contingents was represented by one officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and fifteen other ranks. The parade was led by WG Cdr Rahul Bohra.
The parade witnessed fly past by MI-17 helicopter along with showering of petals at the venue. In close proximity, the ships of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, DSS and Marine Police Boats, anchored off Flag Point were “Dressed Overall” with colourful flags including the tricolour giving a vibrant and spectacular overview that was visible from the entire Marina Road. The synchronized performance of the Army Pipe Band with the marching contingent was another highlight of the event.
The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, DGP, Mr. Neeraj Thakur, and Senior Officers from Defence and Civil Administration were present on the occasion.
