Port Blair, Aug 16: A patient Mr. Barun Sarkar, r/o Nayagaon has been suffering since the last many years due to a spinal injury. The patient presently needs monetary aid for his treatment.
After a prolonged treatment at the local level, he was recently referred from GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair to Ruby Hospital, Kolkata on 10th August 2022 under Ayushman Bharat scheme but he is unable to afford the travel and other expenses.
As the cost of various medical tests conducted by Hospitals are not under Ayushman Bharat scheme the patient is unable to gather courage to visit mainland hospitals.
It was reported that Mr. Barun Sarkar worked as a boat carpenter and sustained the spinal injury eight years ago due to heavy lifting but he continued the work all those years which aggravated the injury and now he can’t even perform the daily routine task for himself.
Few years back with support of many Islanders he had once visited Chennai for treatment after which there was relief for sometime but again his pains are back, because of which he can’t even go for work.
As it has come to light that Mr. Barun already falls under the handicapped category and recently a hole in his spinal cord has been detected in the CT scan.
Under such challenging circumstances, Mr. Barun has been left with a dearth of money for the treatment and does not even have the support from his family members who are already living separated from him.
