Port Blair, Jul 26: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, BJP A&N Islands has requested the Lt Governor of, A&N Islands to restart registration of Commercial Passenger Vehicles for Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep.
In a letter addressed to Lt Governor, A&N Islands, Mr. Bairagi mentioned that the people of these Islands are very hopeful that Andaman & Nicobar Island will attract a far higher number of tourists during the season later this year as compared to earlier. This increased traffic to the Island destinations is welcome to rejuvenate the tourism economy which has faced the brunt of pandemic-led disruption in the last two years.
He stated that one of the major issues faced by the tourists during their visit to these islands is the lack of commercial passenger vehicles during the season.Due to the shortage of cab service in these islands, tour operators have no other option but to use the same cab for multiple guests, and this has brought huge guest dissatisfaction due to the overall quality of vehicles, cleanliness issues and non-availability of single-use cab service even after paying for the service.
Mr. Bairagi mentioned that the Electric Vehicle Policy by GoI in the future will definitely enable the Island to venture towards Green Vehicle. If suitable options of Green Vehicles, fast charging stations and supporting infrastructures are available then this can be beneficial for the Islands. However, our is far behind to achieve the same as it needs lots of infrastructure and other allied service facilities for such new technology vehicles.
Therefore, Mr. AjoyBairagi requested that in order to resolve the issue the registration of more Commercial Passenger vehicles in Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep for the good use of the tourist as well as to provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youths and overall growth of the islands is needed.
