Port Blair, Jul 19: A large number of traders of Great Nicobar Island were left in dismay when they found out that a good number of the cargo consignments brought by MV Khalighat vessel on 19th July 2022 was tampered and costly commodities were missing.
Several times over the last two years the same cases have been reported from Campbell Bay during the sailing of MV Chuglam and MV Khalighat by the traders, which caused huge financial losses to the traders.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. KP Murgan, Secretary, Small Trader Association, Great Nicobar said that many cargo boxes and bags containing Milk Powder, Bornvitta, Horlicks, Chocolates, Biscuits, cigarettes, etc were found open. Even in some boxes, empty soft drink bottles were shoved inside the opened boxes after consuming them.
Further, he alleged that only when the vessel berths at Car Nicobar, Chowra and Terrasa, these types of theft and tampering cases happens.
He said that traders strongly believe that these commodities were stolen and the vessel crew members have complete knowledge about it. Mr. Murgan demanded an immediate inquiry in this matter and stringent action against people who are involved in this theft.
