Port Blair, Jul 01: As a part of the celebration of 73rd Van Mahotsav and awareness of plant conservation and saving the environment, a one-week tree-planting programme was initiated by the Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre on 01st July 2022 at Dhanikhari Experimental Garden cum Arboretum.
The function was inaugurated by Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Joint Director & Head, BSI, by planting a seedling of a Jurassic period endangered plant species Cycaszeylanica (J.Schust.) A. Lindstr. & K.D. Hill, and emphasized the importance of celebrating Van Mahotsav and forest conservation in order to save the environment.
During the tree plantation ceremony, Deputy Commandant/ CASO ASG, Port Blair Mr. Rajinder Singh graced the function as a guest of honour and actively participated along with 14 officers and staff of CISF and planted over 45 samplings of various tree species. Officers and staff of BSI also actively participated in the programme.
