Port Blair, Jun 16: The main Electroencephalogram (EEG) machine of G.B. Pant Hospital is out of order for nearly one month. ECG is a test that measures electrical activity in the brain using small, metal discs (electrodes) attached to the scalp. Brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even during sleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording which has left patients high and dry.
According to reports, the main EEG machine of G B Pant Hospital is out of order for some unknown reasons but still many doctors are advising patients to get EEG done from the OPD block and hence patients are getting harassed and confused. Sources said that even in private labs in Andaman, this EEG test is not available.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Medical Superintendent, Dr. MK Saha in this issue, he informed that the technical team already inspected the machine and as per the technical team the machine was old and needed to be replaced.
He also informed that a request has already been sent for replacing the EEG machine and as the machine is expensive, extensive procedures are being followed regarding this matter. The Medical Superintendent has assured us to look into the matter and try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
