Port Blair, Nov 23: A Kolkata based tourist died this afternoon at Jolly Bouy, while swimming. It is believed that the tourist, Mr. Subrata Guha Thakur, 52 years, suffered heart attack while swimming in sea waters.
According to sources the private boat operators showed tremendous sense of responsibility and took the tourist to Wandoor, from where Police team of PS Humpherygunj took Mr Thakur to PHC Tushnabad, where he was declared dead.
The post mortem of the body was carried out today and later the body was sent to G B Pant Hospital Mortuary.
Late Thakur was working in some PSU and was in Andaman for tour, with his friends. It has been learnt that family members of Mr. Thakur will be arriving tomorrow at Port Blair to claim the body.
This is not the first such incident earlier also one tourist had died at Havelock due to heart attack.
It is said that the Forest Department has deployed six life guards at Jolly Bouy Beach but why the said tourist was not given first aid and initial medical care at the Jolly Bouy beach, is still not clear. When the Forest Department takes Rs. 50 from every tourists for providing basic facilities and amenities at Jolly Bouy, why proper medical care was not given to the said tourist?
