Port Blair, Apr 26: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCOD) comprising 13 Members of Parliament and three IAS Officers led by Mr. Jual Oram, MP (LS), Chairman of the Standing Committee arrived on 23rd April 2022 on a two-day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command.
Lt Gen Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) briefed the committee members on the role, significance and challenges to India’s only joint services command, which has matured over 20 years since its creation on 08th October 2001.
CINCAN during his briefing highlighted the Geo-strategic potential of the A&N Islands and the role they can play in enhancing India’s influence and support to military operations in their area.
It was highlighted that towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), Andaman and Nicobar Command has played a significant role in giving teeth to the Governments stated Act East Policy by building “Bridges of Friendship” with our maritime neighbours.
Post the briefing by CINCAN, the committee was taken to the state of the art Joint Operations Centre (JOC) which is the nerve centre for integrated planning for surveillance, the conduct of operations, logistic support and peace and wartime activities.
At JOC the latest technology in communication and data fusion is leveraged to present a cohesive and integrated operational picture to the Commanders of Andaman and Nicobar Command thereby, assisting them in dynamic decision making.
Later in the evening the members of SCOD visited Brichgunj Military Station and interacted with Senior Officers of HQ ANC and the Component Commanders. They were apprised of the role of various components of Andaman and Nicobar Command and the challenges being faced by them.
The SCOD team will be further familiarised on 24th April2022 with the operational capabilities of Andaman and Nicobar Command. They will also be visiting multiple defense facilities.
