Port Blair, Apr 19: The District Child Protection Unit under District Administration, South Andaman in collaboration with Police Department conducted an awareness programme on the “POCSO Act” at Pranab Kanya Sangh (Child Care Institution) on 19th April 2022.
The main aim of the programme was to sensitize children on POCSO related issues as child sexual abuse is a concern that is being reported day by day and children being the most vulnerable section of society are susceptible to physical, psychological and emotional abuse.
Resource person from the Police Department explained the key features of the POSCO Act like Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, Pornography and related sections and Punishment of the Act through PowerPoint Presentation.
Stages of judicial process work in a child-friendly mechanism, which includes reporting, recording and investigation of evidence was also highlighted to the children. The Children were encouraged to stand up for their safety and security in order to prevent crime against children.
A similar programme was also conducted at Bethany Children’s Home on 18th April 2022. Altogether 70 children were befitted through the programme.
The District Administration, South Andaman is dedicated to the welfare of the children and looks forward to more such positive awareness in the future to educate children towards their Protection and betterment.
