Port Blair, Nov 22: The Lt. Governor, Lt. General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today inaugurated the State level Science Exhibition & cultural competitions- Gyanodaya-2012, at ITF ground, Port Blair. The Lt Governor lit the ceremonial lamp marking the inauguration of the exhibition-cum-cultural programmes in presence of the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh. A Souvenir was also released by the Lt Governor on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor expressed happiness that the mega-event ‘Gyanodaya-2012’ is being organized for the first time in the Islands combining Sports, Fine Arts & Science and cultural programmes. He stated that besides providing opportunities to the young and talented minds to exhibits and display their creativity in the field of Science and Fine Arts, event like this will also provide opportunities to the children from different and far-flung Islands to interact with each others and share their knowledge and experiences and can cherish the pleasure of mutual bonding which they had during their stay at Port Blair.
The Lt Governor noted with appreciation that students from different zones of Islands, right from Diglipur in North to Campbell Bay in the southern group are participating in the multiple events. The students have shown lot of creativity and displayed the vision for the development of the Islands was well displayed through their exhibits. Now we will strive to translate their vision of development of the islands into reality, he stated.
The Lt Governor also had special words of appreciation for the cultural talents of the children and teachers, who had performed exceptionally well at the A&N Day celebration organized as part of IITF, New Delhi. The cultural show presented by the children of the islands had drawn huge appreciation from the people in the National capital, he stated.
A colourful cultural programme comprising aerobatic show by tiny tots of Girls School, Quawali by teachers of Education department and Rajasthan folk dance by students of Model School delighted the audience present on the occasion.
Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others, the Principal Secretary (Education), Smt Reena Ray stated that the exhibits displayed by the school students showed that they are immensely talented and have lot of innovative ideas in the mind.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director of Education, Dr. Dev Das.
