
It all started in the small Island of Kamorta Nancowry, where a school boy with a passion for art, especially, for sculptures & dancing developed an interest towards cinema and watching his role model Hrithik Roshan made him even more passionate about trying his career in the world of cinema.
As it is said, fate never despairs passionate people, it proved right in case of our hero of this article Mr Hanumant Rao. Fate brought Hanumant to Mumbai where he completed his degree in architecture from a reputed institution Academy of Architecture and learned every segment of cinema to never turn back.
Working in short movies to TV dramas, mainstream to regional project, off screen to onscreen, he displayed his talent with hard-work and determination in every project he was assigned. One such example of his multitalented work is the upcoming Assamese sci-fi movie ‘Avataran’ where Hanumant has worked as VFX specialist and will also be seen acting in its sequel.
His recent interview as celebrity guest on DD Port Blair’s ‘Ek Mulakat’ show bought him to our attention and we decided to know more about this young actor.
Hailing from Nancowry Island, Andaman and belonging to a middle-class family, Hanumant had a special interest in dancing & sculptures from childhood which bought him a lot of praise.
His inspiration was Hrithik Roshan and watching his movies only inspired him more & more towards cinema and how can fate despair the enthusiasm of this young and talented artist. After completing his schooling, he got the opportunity to study architecture from one of India’s most prestigious architecture schools based in Mumbai.
During his college days at Mumbai, he never missed any dance, modelling and stage drama event which bought him to the notice of many movie makers and in one such event he met Mr. Tarunabh Dutta, one of the ace and upcoming filmmakers of India who is ready with his latest Assamese Sci-Fi thriller ‘Avataran’ in which Hanumant has done a wonderful job as an VFX artist and actor.
Meeting Tarunabh Dutta was the main turning point of Hanumant’s career. Hanumant started assisting Tarunabh and later was offered a role in one of his short movies ‘The Dark Side’. Hanumant’s portrayal in this film as an antagonist received him a lot of appreciation and it marked the beginning of his cinematic journey. This film marked the first of Rao’s many collaborations with filmmaker Tarunabh Dutta and his company TD Film Studio.
One such project was the ‘Savages’ which was released Worldwide in 2012 in the Zombie Fest by Moster Pictures, United Kingdom.He is the first actor from Andaman and Nicober Islands whose film was released world wide
In 2011, Rao played a minor role and also assisted in the TV serial ‘Onusandhankari Spiridon’ – Paranormal Investigators. premiered on DY-365 Channel Guwahati India.
In search of more knowledge and expertise Mr Rao decided to join MONttAGE Film & TV Academy for learning acting, direction and script writing under the guidance of national award-winning director Mr Atanu Biswas. While studying in the MONttAGE, Rao acted and directed many short films for Mr Atanu Biswas.
After completing the course, Rao appeared in TV series like ‘Sadda Haq’ of Channel V.He also worked as Assistant Casting Director for TV series ‘Main Na Bhoolungi’ of Sony TV.
In his early career days, Rao was mainly involved in Graphics and VFX segment and being a student of architecture at that time, he managed to learn and compose graphics content very easily and this gave him an opportunity to work in the upcoming Assamese Sci-Fi fictional project ‘AVATARAN’ to be released very soon. Apart from working as a VFX assistant he will be seen onscreen in the sequel of AVATARAN.
For the knowledge of our readers, Avataran is an upcoming Assamese-language science fiction film directed and produced by Tarunabh Dutta. The film was initially scheduled for a release on August 21, 2020, but the release date has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.Now the film is being released in theatres on 25th March 2022.
Mr Rao’s passion for film-making and to establish himself in the field of direction and script writing led him to start his own studio ‘HR Film Studio’where hemade many short films.
During The COVID Pandemic Mr. Rao has contributed his share of responsibilityby making a shortfilm n COVID which was also telecasted on Doordarshan Port Blair.
While talking about his future projects, Mr. Rao told us that promoting the tourism sector in our Islands and providing opportunity to the local talents hailing from the beautiful Islands of Andaman and Nicobar in the sector of arts, culture and film-making would be his prime interests.
