Port Blair, Mar. 03: As part of the preparations for the ensuing Panchayat & Municipal Elections -2022, the Office of the Director (Panchayat and Municipal Elections) had organised a series of training programmes for the personnel engaged in Election Duty. The third & final round training for the Presiding Officers and Polling Officials of Municipal Wards was organised at the DBRAIT auditorium today.
Addressing the trainees on the occasion, the DPME, Shri Suneel Anchipaka reiterated that all personnel engaged in election duty irrespective of their assigned duties have to play a vital role in the smooth conduct of polling on the day of poll. Today, being the last day of the training, the DPME urged the election personnel to get all their doubts clarified and asked each and every polling official to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and responsibility on the poll day for the smooth conduct of free, fair and transparent elections in these Islands.
In every election, personnel on election duty at polling booths face new challenges which, the DPME said, has to be dealt with sensitively in co-ordination with the team of Polling Officials attached with them. To avoid hiccups on the poll day, the trainees have to take up the training seriously for the smooth conduct of polling at their respective booth which will be intimated accordingly.
The DPME has once again urged all the Presiding Officers to take the hands on training on EVMs seriously to avoid running into problem of handling EVMs on the day of Poll. The Presiding Officers should ensure that the Polling starts sharp at 7 AM at their respective polling booths on March 6 without fail.
The Director, Panchayat & Municipal Elections sought the cooperation and active involvement of all officials involved in the election process in the conduct of a smooth, free, fair & transparent elections in the Islands.
Earlier, the Nodal Officer, Training & Vehicle, Dr. Aom Dhole welcomed the DPME and the trainees present.
Master trainers imparted the training and moderated the demo polling for the benefit of the election personnel of Port Blair Municipal Wards. Doubt clearing session was also held.
Later, hands on training were imparted to the election officials about handling the EVMs on poll day. Checking of EVMs, EVM components and details of Control Unit & Ballot Unit, setting up of EVMs in the Polling Stations, Mock Poll-sequence, closing of Poll, closing and sealing of Control Unit, were effectively explained to the trainees’ present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, training for the Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Master Trainers, Counting Supervisor and Counting Assistants on the counting procedures was held in at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar auditorium today. Shri Som Naidu DANICS Officer (Retd.) as the resource person imparted training on the counting procedures of ballot votes.
