Port Blair, Mar 03: Municipal &Panchayat Elections are scheduled to be held in A&N Islands on 06th March 2022 and counting will be held on o8th March 2022.
A&N Police is committed to ensuring free, fair, impartial and peaceful elections and accordingly has put in place elaborate Police/security arrangements.
The Police department has deployed sufficient Police personnel for election related duties. The deployment includes Police personnel from District Police, Armed Police/Special Armed Police, PHQ, India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), PTS, etc.
In addition communication wing, Fire Service and Special Branch will perform election duties as per the Police arrangements plan.
Votes will be cast in 800 polling booths on 06th March 2022. Sufficient static Police personnel is deputed at each polling booth to ensure that no unauthorized person gains access to the polling station and voters can cast their votes in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Lady Police are detailed at each Polling Station. The Police staff will be adequately equipped with wireless sets for seamless communication and prompt reporting of any Law & Order situation.
Out of 800 polling booths, some booths are identified as sensitive booths. Detailed duty briefings are conducted at various levels to sensitize officers of all ranks.
Several supervisory officers are deployed to supervise the entire law and order arrangement. To assist in the supervision, sector police officers are deployed who will move round the clock in their designated jurisdiction to attend to any law and order problem.
Additionally, special check-posts and Police pickets are being set up in sensitive areas and the Police have also increased patrolling in such areas. Static surveillance teams, striking forces, and special teams have also been constituted to avoid any untoward incidents.
Police have intensified vigil to prevent any distribution of liquor, narcotic drugs and money. The massive crackdown is launched against bootleggers and anti-social elements. In February 2022, A&N Police has registered more than 120 cases under 32 Regulation III of 1876 (Excise related cases) in which more than 1061 bottles of IMFL, 262 Kg of illicit handia and illicit liquor were seized.
In addition, 1.15 Kg ganja was recovered. To check the activities of habitual offenders, preventive action is taken against bootleggers and anti-social elements. Stringent action will be taken against trouble mongers and violators of the Model Code of Conduct.
The general public is hereby requested to pass credible information regarding a violation of Model Code of Conduct or any other illegal activity noticed in their locality to Police at 100, 112 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informer will be kept secret.
